Surrendering to the Soul’s Compass
Letting Go of the Plan
This past week, life reminded me—twice—that no matter how carefully I plan, I am not in control of the road. Or the terrain beneath my feet. Or the energy in the air. What I am in control of is how I respond. Whether I resist… or surrender. I was reminded in the importance of surrendering to the Soul’s Compass.
Two moments stood out—one physical, one energetic—but both offered me the same lesson: Let go of the plan and follow the deeper wisdom within.
Stuck in the Sand
I’ve been work-camping in the Pacific Northwest this summer, staying at a campground on the coast of Washington. It sounded like a fun adventure—an opportunity to stay rooted in one place, connect with community, and be close to nature.
Weeks ago, I unhooked my truck from my camper so I could use it for errands and exploring. One day this past week, I took a drive—first to the recycling bins, then to the store for a coconut water. After that, I decided to head down to the beach.
In Washington, people often drive right onto the sand. But my truck isn’t four-wheel drive, so when the road turned soft, I tried to turn around.
And I got stuck.
The more I tried to free myself, the deeper I sank. And I had left my phone in the camper—something I never had to think about before, when my truck and camper were always together. Now I was alone, on the beach, with no tools and no way to call for help.
All I could do was wait.
A young couple eventually stopped and tried to help. They didn’t have the tools we needed, but they let me use their phone to call 911. The dispatcher said I’d need to call a tow truck. Just as the couple was getting ready to leave, a four-wheel-drive truck came down the beach road.
I waved him down. “Do you have a tow rope?” I asked.
“Yes,” he replied. “Do you have a hitch?”
“Yes, I do.”
Within minutes, he had me pulled out. He handed me his card and told me he was part of a Facebook group that does beach rescues.
It was miraculous. Just when I needed help the most, someone who specializes in helping people stuck in the sand showed up.
The Deeper Lesson
There’s something humbling about being stuck. You feel your smallness. Your vulnerability. All your strength and independence suddenly aren’t enough.
At first, I did what we all do—tried harder. Reverse, push, dig. But trying harder only made things worse.
Eventually, I had to stop. I had to wait. I had to trust.
And while I waited, I reflected on how often we try to force our way through life when we feel stuck. We panic. We push. We judge ourselves. But maybe the sand isn’t there to punish us. Maybe it’s there to pause us.
Maybe life stops us in our tracks not because we’re failing—but because it’s trying to reroute us.
Ironically, I felt calm through the whole thing. Something deeper in me knew: I would be okay.
Letting Go of the Job
Not long after that, I faced a different kind of crossroads.
Even though I had taken this summer job to be closer to nature, I discovered something unsettling—a powerful cell tower just feet away from my living space. Whether or not I could “prove” it, my body and spirit were saying no. Something in me was rejecting the energy, as if my whole being whispered, “You’re not meant to be here.”
I didn’t want to walk away. I didn’t want to give up. I didn’t want to lose the income or the stability. But my soul wouldn’t let me override what I knew to be true.
So I let my boss know. I honored my truth. And just like that, the plan changed.
It felt like standing at the edge of a cliff with no landing in sight. But I felt peace. Not certainty. Not control. Just peace.
Divine Redirection
There’s an old saying: If you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans.
That feels like the theme of my life lately—nothing is going according to plan. But I’m starting to trust that this isn’t failure. It’s divine redirection.
Just because life doesn’t go the way we imagined doesn’t mean we’re off course. It often means we’re being guided by something greater.
Sometimes the soul’s compass says stop. Sometimes it says turn around. And sometimes it gently whispers, “Not this way.”
Awakening to What’s Around Us
Living near that cell tower also brought a deeper awareness. Most people around me seemed oblivious to it. We’ve normalized living with constant exposure to EMFs. But just because we don’t feel something immediately doesn’t mean it isn’t affecting us.
There are risks in this modern world that often go unspoken—hidden in plain sight. And when we do sense something is off, we’re often encouraged to ignore it.
But our bodies and souls speak to us. Quietly. Subtly. They tell us when something’s not right. It’s up to us to listen.
I’ve seen this time and time again with people healing from narcissistic abuse. Their soul knew long before their mind caught up. But they needed validation, evidence, sometimes even a crisis before they could act.
Listening to the Soul
The ego speaks loudly. It clings to plans and paths that feel safe and familiar. But the soul speaks softly—gently guiding us toward alignment.
The soul path doesn’t always look “successful.” It’s not paved with praise, money, or external validation. But it feels right.
To walk the soul path, you must trust. Let go of the plan. Let go of the timeline. Follow what feels true—even when it’s inconvenient.
This summer didn’t go as planned. But in getting stuck, I was reminded that miracles can arrive at just the right moment.
I don’t know exactly where I’m going now. But I know I’m listening. I know I’m surrendering. And I know I’m being guided by something wiser than my mind: the compass of my soul.
